NY Fashion Week Day 5

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Wednesday, September 17, 2008

9 am Cho Chang
09/10
The cuts on the high-waisted skirt suits were nice, but the fabric was a very bad idea, making the gazelle-like models seem bigger than they were, meaning that any normal-sized person would not be able to pull the look off.  The colours were mints and purples with an opalized finish that went out with the 80’s.  There was a beautiful ballerina gown, however, that would make any girl look like a princess.

2 pm Phillip Lim
09/10
The Philip Lim Girl is a thinker with a passion to learn and explore all the while being in buttery leather.  Her counterpart was the nerdy thinker boyfriend.  The only thing that gave this couple an escape from their jumpers and slouchy trousers, was the beautiful colour palette of ecru, ice blue, dusty pink and beautiful mustard with gorgeous bright chili pepper shoes blossoming at their feet. Phillip had more fun toward the end with stand-out swirled zipper trimmed waves protruding off tops, a killer black dress, and a candy pink wave cocktail number that was soft and strong at the same time.  Also memorable were the slouchy sequin pieces that recalled an early Armani during Studio 54.  We want Phillip to spend more time at the disco.

2 pm Nolcha Fashion Week: NYC
09/10
Eva Zizzou: Big cowboy hats and animal print bags paired with white button down and cut out corseted vests.  Costumey but separated, might be something Pat Field would pull
Royal Sunday: Closely tailored “designer” urban wear for the metro-dressing male population.  Lots of rhinestones, metal plate tags and leather.

4 pm Marchesa
09/10
Models poised and perfect like sculptures at the Met but it was the Chelsea Art Museum that was a host to this display, and again it was perfection.  The tulle gowns and chiffon overlays gave the right amount of airy spring ambience (a bit of vintage Nina Ricci seemed to be an influence) and the mini dresses were a clear forethought to the amazing legs of young Hollywood which will be parading the dresses during award season.  I guarantee you will be seeing a lot more “short” on the red carpet.

4 pm Nolcha Fashion Week:NYC Show 2
09/10
Monica Moss: Marketable  60’s and 70’s inspired clothing with colour.  The mix of patterns wasn’t dazzling, but the piping on the men’s trench coat was cute and just enough flash for the man that wants to be noticed.  The grand finale was a quaint little heart detailed dress.  Too bad the quaint dress had already been seen on Ms. Victoria Beckham and made by her close friend Marc Jacobs…
Carolina Brazil: Earth-toned teeny bikinis inspired by Gladiators.  Made for the confident woman who wants to flaunt her body and her attitude.

7 pm Anna Sui
09/10
Just the perfect amount of embellishment to get her point across.  It was folksy without costume and the lengths of all the flouncey dresses was perfect for a New York Spring day.  Anna Sui makes clothing fun because she loves fashion so much that the “Save the Garment Center” theme not only wove it’s way through the textiles but jumped right into the goodie bags as well.  And Métier loves anyone who keeps it in NYC!

8 pm Nolcha Fashionweek Show 3
09/10
1 of 3: Eco-couture, which usually is a contradiction in words, had a sense of flirty humor this evening with 1 of 3’s collection.  The yellow and grey colour palette was right on top of Spring Trend and the pops of red added to the bright young fresh patterns.  The clothes were constructed from Bamboo and Silk with a bit of Milk and Mungbean thrown in for good measure so not only were they cute, but they will make you feel good about your purchase.

Celestino:
Citing Madame Gres as inspiration is a lot to say for a young designer, but then Sergio Guadarrama send down a taupe skirt suit with such beautiful drape that we almost kind of believed him.  He does evening well and by understanding the woman he is dressing, he has a promising future.  I would have loved to see some of the long gowns without the tone-on tone pattern, but debs everywhere will most likely disagree with me.
