The awards took place at the Factory Hall 706 in the bohemian quarter of Beijing on 31st July. On the judging panel sat some of the finest fashion professionals, Dutch design duo Viktor & Rolf, supermodel and fashion photographer Helena Christensen, Ellen Von Unwerth, Sarah (Colette), Lv Van and Jan Rosenberg. The judging criteria was based on innovation and creativity in interpreting the “female theme,” also individuality and uniqueness was a key factor along with the aesthetics quality in design and execution with presentation playing a vital part.
Viktor & Rolf commented on the awards, “What we love most is the fact that the students were asked to free themselves of the commercial side of things – almost no restraints were put on their creativity”.
20 year old Japanese student, Midori Matsuo walked away with 1st prize with her “Under Skin” design (which will be adapted and then manufactured and sold by Triumph) also pocketing €15000. Whilst runner up, Theresa Bachler, 21 from Germany landed €10000 for her “Once upon a lifetime” design and Norwegian Stire Fagervik-Rosen, 28, claimed her €5000 for the “Design for beautiful trash”.
