Marsha Goes to Hollywood: I Wear My Sunglasses at Night

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Saturday, August 01, 2009

Solar X AkiraThis week, another thrilling fashion show production for Marsha wrapped with a futuristic, space - like promenade of FORD models down a shining, yellow acrylic runway.
With trends looking quite apocalyptic for menswear this season- shadowy men draped in chunky knits, dropped crotch pants and giant hoods stormed down the runway in the season's best from Ben ShermanG-Star RawDiesel7DiamondsDorsia and Bjorn BorgAKIRA's 1st annual presentation of a ready-to-wear men's show, SolarX,  was in full force this past Thursday, fully expecting to blow Nordstrom's show out of the water, which is the only other exclusively men's fashion show in the city of Chicago produced to this extent. Menswear is one of the markets where consumers are still buying, but to guarantee that men have a jump start to looking chic and current we produced our own minimal, modern show that was small on fanfare, but big on styling tips (because we all know men don’t like fluff).
Common themes among designers included the essential men's accessory: a giant travel duffel as well as exaggerated silhouettes adding a high fashion flare to these ready-to-wear looks.
Footwear by Puma Black Station designed by Alexander McQueenRudolf Dassler and Mihara Yasuhiro caught many eyes in the audience with wild animal prints from Mihara, smooth and interesting textures from McQueen and stunning suede and colorful leather combinations from Dassler.
Mid-show, the runway dazzled with scantily clad models, including a few ladies sporting the neo-80's look. Colorful shades by Ray Ban and playful printed undies from Bjorn Borg made bold statements that not everything has to be brown, black or rust in the fall season.
For a show finale, looks did take a leap to the dark-side with outrageously detailed looks for menswear by G-Star Raw accented by glossy, geometric masks- resembling some kind of futuristic space gang. Some people gasped, some people said Hell Yes. Which I translate as It's about time someone put sharp, spiky masks on a male model and sent them down the runway. But knowing Chicago, people probably thought it was some homage to Shredder from The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Until next time, may the power of SolarX be with you.
-xoxo Marsha
