The fresh new art crowd all descended upon the Art Institute of Chicago’s unveiling of the Modern Wing at the “Young Modern Party”.
Patrons packed the foyer to look not only at the modern day masterpieces, but at three new masters in their own right.
A fashion installation done by Michelle Barone, Marisa Swystun with details by Maggie Morgan, decorated the long hallway. All graduates of the School of the Art Institute and current independent fashion designers, the three were asked to create pieces based on the works of Jackson Pollock for the opening event.
Michelle Barone gave us looks in perfect grayscale with a lot of shoulder detail. The origami structure to her orange and grey look was perfection in that the construction and draping was evident from one millimeter away to the second floor where people gathered to get a bird’s eye view.
Marisa Swystun turned out long gowns with emphasis on varied textures. The tone-on-tone beading of the “y back” piece or the hand painting of the cap-sleeve silk number were ready to go straight from pedestal to party.
Maggie Morgan, one of Nolcha’s own contributors, crafted silver sculptural accessories from monocles and hair pieces to mini hats. Her art direction in way of styling with teased hair, feathery lashed and nude shoes allowed for the entire instillation to breathe properly and really move as a group as were allowed to see the clothes and models at all angles.
All in all, fans happily snapped photos, in the joy of discovering what the great city of Chicago is famous for...new talent.
