On April 30th, 2008, nearly 2,200 people came to Philadelphia’s Academy of Music to see the 2009 Philadelphia University Fashion Show.
This year’s show “Fashion Fantasy” was designed to take people away from the bleak and less-than-cheerful present to another world full of color and life. The audience saw colorful prints, gorgeous eveningwear, and most of all, the talent of Philadelphia University students.Philadelphia University senior Kelly Davis won ‘Best of Show’ for her swashbuckling pirate-inspired childrenswear. The receipt of the ‘Best Senior Collection’ went to Gretchen Harris for her equestrian inspired evening gown and ready-to-wear pieces. The 2009 Spirit of Design award, given to a fashion designer for excellence in design and fashion, went to Philadelphia University alum and NYC-based couturier, William Calvert ’91. Quite possibly the best thing about “Fashion Fantasy” was that it was (and has always been) a show completed made by students. The show is produced by the school’s co-curricular fashion group, Fashion Industries Association.
Additionally, Industrial Design and Architecture students helped with set design. For more pictures and information about the show, visit the Philadelphia Fashion Show. For more information click Fashion Industries Association
