As a second installment of Columbia College’s student fashion showcases, Launch, the senior class’s celebration of the work, vision and dedication from both fashion design and fashion retail departments, took place on May 15th in front of a packed house of buyers, journalists and faculty.
Over 40 original collections descended upon the school’s catwalk. Students grouped their looks into three; a small glimpse of what their entire collections entailed but enough to see that there is some amazing talent coming out to hit the “real world” with force.
Stand-outs were Jennifer Beeman for her silk crepe de shine grey and white palette that gave us a proper look at modern ready-to-wear from youthful eyes. Jocelyn Farwell, whose smart fabric choices, perfect finishing and unparalleled draping had even the legendary Barbara Glass gasping in her seat. And finally, Reginald Valdesco, who is reminiscent of a young LaCroix with his tulle craftsmanship and avante-guard approach to shapes and patterns. The Vivian Price Fashion Design Award was given to Boyeon Kim who showed a high-end denim collection of deconstructed jeans.
