NY Fashion Week Day 2

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Sunday, September 07, 2008

10 am Walter
09/07
Vibrant colours, floral patterns, and lean cuts on long flowing dresses, high-waisted boyfriend pants and short onezies.  Preppy chic with a bit of edge especially shown in a black and white hounds tooth biker jacket.  Every piece was pleasantly wearable.
-Eliza Goodman

11 am DKNY
09/07
Mark Vanderloo and Esther Canadas re-created a DKNY advertisement just in their mere presence at DKNY’s 20th Anniversary.  Esther purred in her feline perfection.  Mark had the quintessential lock of hair in his eye.  Viewers definitely felt the energy of New York City that Karan is famous for.

12 noon Tracey Reese

The scalloped pleats were lovely and the strapless dresses with peplums were standouts that should have been explored more, as they were young and fresh for any age.  But there were too many colour stories and differences in shape.

Arguably will be the best presentation this week, it was JUST PERFECTION.  The location was so crisp and clean.  Never has knitwear been sculpted so beautifully, the depth of the colour of the chiffon overlays made their own print within the fabric.  Also seen a completely new take on the women’s trouser, but not futuristic.

3 pm Herve Leger
09/07
J Lo took center stage because anyone in fashion knows what they are going to see when they go to Leger.  The windowpane stained glass motif was different and beautiful and the fitted blazers were lovely.  They should have explored more of that motif.

4 pm Diane Von Furstenburg
09/07
All came out: Simon Doonan, Rachael Zoe, Anderson Cooper and of course the “fashion nation.” And the clothes were quintessentially Diane.

5 pm Karen Sabag
09/07
It started out strong with a hat that was made to crown Daisy Buchanan and a lovely short silk chiffon, but then the path veered and the collection became too aggressive.  The craftsmanship of the corseting was recognized as strong but there was no real identity and for the shapes, there was consistent poor, poor choice in fabric.

7 pm Tuleh
09/07
It’s all about the prints and trousers.  The collection said wearable and luxury but this time Mr. Bradley seems to feel at home with the line and was able to take risks with mixing and matching amazing prints. Although pencil skirts reigned supreme no one does a long flowing chiffon gown like Tuleh and this year was no different.  Add to that quirky names for each look like “Candace Bushnell” and “Mrs.Dalloway” and a set on the 9th Floor of Martha Stewart’s office and you have a unique showing.
