The Delano was the host of an 800 plus person party for Gen Art’s Miami chapter as they unveiled the FASHIONscape series showcase two new designers. And bringing my toughest critic Markus Ketty, Nolcha’s Design Director along to peruse the talent, we hit the lawn to review the clothes.
John D Schoemann for the John David Collection was the first sight when we walked in. His first installment was pleasant; lots of white with gauzy details, a beautifully cut jumpsuit and some separates that would pair well in the city for a summer day. The second not so great. The collection took a drastic turn towards the 80’s which broke the line of the entire presentation, and there were so many nipple slips by the posing beauties, that MK, being the ever present gentleman wanted to intervene.
The second collection claudiae by Claudia Estrada was missed until three quarters of the way through the show when the guests realized that the table full of Asian delights was actually to set off the models instead of waiting for a serving of dim sum. It was a shame as there was no sign, no mention, and I had to refer to the invite to find out the name of the designer. The only glimpse we got was a Vivienne Tam representation at best.
Things we have learned: Gen Art can draw a crowd. Things to note: Let the crowd know who the new talent is.
