Miami Fashion Week 09: Veronica de la Canal

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Friday, March 20, 2009

Veronica de la Canal Miami Fashion Week 09Thirty seven year old Veronica de la Canal, from the South American country of Argentina, showed the best crafted collection thus far at Miami Fashion Week 2009.
Her ‘renaissance’ collection was of exquisite taste, from the choice of fabrics and colors to the concept of making every dress look like a museum piece. Having shown previously in London and Paris, she says that Miami gives her that extra energy boost due to the city’s vibrant culture. This year marks her 3rd trip to Miami Fashion Week. Among the front row elite were actors Alejandro Chaban, Gabriel Porras, singer Alexia, Pily Mirani, Sulma Arizala, and even former Miss Panama Patricia de Leon.
Veronica describes her collection to NOLCHA as “a Victorian aspect of women’s beauty in true Baroque style”.  She told me her inspiration was from the strength of a woman, a superwoman, a wonder woman, a female in battle for her beliefs. As the dresses went down the runway you seem to gain a feeling of love, passion, and romance. Her beautiful evening wear collection was gorgeous and reminded me of something Queen Elizabeth would have worn to her prom. Although her collection was mature and serious, it also embodied a young women’s feel through the splashes of hot pink that reminded me of something off of Heatherette’s runway, or even John Galliano (one of her favorite designers).
The color palette consisted of pale pinks and light grays to give that soft “cotton-candy” vibe. The tapestry used along with the ornate, flowy gowns was indeed of marvelous craftsmanship. Other materials used were twill, lace, velour, linen, silks, and painted plastic. The British taste in her collection was also reflected in the paintings that were done on the corsets which were partially plastic. These master pieces were done to perfection and made every dress look as if it literally belonged in a museum. Even though her collection was red-carpet ready it also was a bit too costume-ish and therefore made it non-ratailable. Veronica is indeed a high-end haute couture designer and her clientele would range from pageant queens to a more celebrity audience.
Her one-of-a-kind pieces can be found in her Buenos Aires boutique. and by visiting www.VeronicadelaCanal.com.ar
