Box Eight LA Fashionweek 2010: Eduardo Lucero

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Sunday, March 21, 2010
Its often been said, “Expectation is pre-meditated disappointment”. Its only natural that we expect tomorrow to be better than this evening…. And if it isn’t? Well…. There will be hell to pay for sure….

However, fortunately for everyone involved Box Eight hit another homerun tonight. The starts were aligned and they shun bright with an amazing display of eveningwear from four very talented southern California designers starting with Eduardo Lucero.

One of the reasons I love Eduardo is that he has not sold himself out to the fashion money machine, often credited with destroying so many talented designers before they even have a chance to be fully self realized. He refuses to play a game at which few can win.

His 2010 collection is no different in this respect. Regardless of industry trend and hype, Lucero designs with soul.

This unveiling is all about Victorian meets Tribal… gowns and dresses with some waistcoats and ¾ length coats. The Victorian influence can be found in the sleeve of many of his gowns, blouses and jackets. The tribal influence can be found in the jewelry that was selectively pieced and sewn together to make one of my favorite garments, a leopard print gown with vintage gold jewelry pieces, which were woven together to make a shoulder cuff. Also a highlight was hand made leather belt skirts and dresses.

All of Eduardo’s fabrics were hand died, which brought an amazing color palette to this collection.

Overall the soul of a fashionista was fully expressed to create amazement in the eyes of the crowds who were screaming and applauding as each new look came out to be photographed.
