We don’t know if it is Beyonce’s Sasha Fierce or Gaga, the Lady herself who set the trend, but the lack of pants was dually noted on the runways. Hermione turned out almost a hybrid of the tap pant, in a floral jumpsuit at Vauxhall Fashion Scout in London, which was feminine and lovely. Milan referenced the 40’s style brief the most. Bottega Venetta was clean white, starched and lady-like, just like the Bottega lady is, Dolce and Gabbana again with the crochet black Siciliano theme, Francesco Scognamiglio with his big shoulder blazer paired with a higher cut brief embellished with stars, Gucci’s was leather and tough girl. Iceberg followed with a studded bodice. Marc Jacobs, Rochas and Stella McCartney all paired their briefs with very saleable ready-to-wear top halfs like button downs, Johnny collar polos and khaki blazers respectively. Nina Ricci and Maurizio Pecoraro added ruffles for that “lingerie” element which was also a trend. Rick Owens and Prada jumped way outside of the box by hanging Grecian loin-clothes from the brief at Owens and offering up post-card printed silky “jogging shorts” at Prada. But it was Derek Lam in New York who challenged the audience into believing that wintering in warmth was more than a lifestyle choice but a must. By adding ready-to-wear details on his one-pieces he gave us a much needed somewhere to go with this trend, which is pool-side of course.
