Designer Riccardo Tisci unveiled his Fall 2009 couture collection for Givenchy on July 7th to an outdoor venue.
His inspiration was drawn from Morocco as well as the equestrian lifestyle. Fitted black velvet three button jackets that bowed out at the waist were paired with tapered black cropped pants of the same hue. Lace up leather boots went all the way up to the knee with cutouts over the toe encompassing the equestrian theme. The pallet moved from black to white as an array of silk and cotton floor length gowns were shown. Most notably was the ivory silk bodice wrapping floor length strapless dress that enhanced into a blood orange red at knee level. The Middle Eastern Influence was also seen in the heavy use of jewelry, as gold dripped from the stacked chunky bangles, plethora of necklaces and elaborate earrings. Gold jewelry was even affixed to the face of the models around their chin and under the eyes. The gold rings were vicious spikes and looked more like weapons than accessories. These models were dressed in couture but looked more like warriors ready to take on a battle.
