Fall 2009 Couture: Christian Dior

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Tuesday, July 07, 2009

Christian Dior Couture Fall 2009The Christian Dior Fall 2009 couture show took place at the Dior headquarters in the Avenue Montaigne on July 6th.
John Galliano went back the roots of the House of Dior and presented the collection the way it was done so in the 1950’s, as it was an intimate affair minus the glitz and the glamour of a major runway show.  Galliano said his inspiration came from behind-the-scenes photographs taken of Monsieur Dior as he dressed his models over half a century ago for the presentations to clients and press.  The style of the presentation was not the only thing that traveled back in time as the nude garter belts, oversized pearls, buttery soft pink leather gloves, black tulle velvet hats and black lace veils also spoke to this time.  Galliano’s signature use of color was brought out with bright tangerine silk charmuse knee length bubble skirts, magenta silk pleated dresses, and a peach & orange satin leopard print knee length dress with ruffled sleeves.  What drastically differed from the bygone era was the sheer slip like skirting and lack of bottoms that made the garter belts and thigh highs as much a part of the collection as the clothing. We can never go back in time, but Galliano was able to translate the past while making it relevant for today.
