“I draw inspiration from a more optimistic world – an age of reflection, a new period that is marked by an increase in creativity and more humanistic approach to all we do, think and create,” designer Paula Saavedra told her audience at the Caffé Swimwear show on July 16th.
If one can interpret liberally by looking at the collection it would be that artisan influenced designs would again rule the runway and Saavedra did just that with her illuminating white run which opened the show.
Bathing suits done all in white with lots of color accents echoed a Guatamalan weaving which was placed in perfect spots to flatter a woman’s shape (the cleavage, the hip, the shoulder straps). The large square gold buckle was a favorite detail, and while hot if lying on the beach, flattering and chic at the hip bone it sat pulling the weaving and white together. The same buckle made it’s way into sexy sarongs, adding luxury to an easy product.
When the white theme ended, Saavedra brought out bright happy colors (green, purple, and fuchsia) mix and match two pieces with similar accents and accessorized with woven straw beach bags.
Beautiful girls going to the markets in South America after a swim. What could be more optimistic than that?
