New York Fashion Week Fall 2010: Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Awards

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Monday, February 15, 2010
For the first time (and last time due to the move at Lincoln Center) the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation gave the world their winners all on one stage.

The Blonds always a Nolcha favorite for sticking to their guns and “going there” opened the show with ostrich furs and crystals and corsets, but it was the gold chainmail dress with spikes jutting out from the shoulders and trickling down throughout the bodice that really showed they could follow their vision, but still produce fashion and not just corsets and music video attire

Prova’s jewelry and glass beaded fringed scarves are both displayed a range of amazing color usage as well as brought back a vibe of the mid-century jet set lifestyle where jewelry pieces told stories of the travels, which is why the climbing brass monkey necklaces made with antique brass beads stood out as a favorite.

Prabal Gurung who showed earlier in the week as well, brought back to the runway his staples for fall.  The graphic element of front and back seen in both the the coats and the feather dress proved that he knows how to elongate a womans body and therefore will be popular with buyers.

Siki Im gave the audience stark well grunge inspired menswear.  A nod to a Rick Owen type of vibe his men truged throughout the stage like a mini army but the hidden elements like the quilted trench dragging along the model affixed with backpack straps was a crowd favorite.

Altuzarra has long been watched by Nolcha.  His craftsmanship and the fact that he teeters between French couture and NY ready-to-wear makes him a favorite in the fashion community.  This season a strong use of texture (goat hair, leather, velvet) even seen in the stitching that looked like sutures and stap belts holding skirts together, will make him even more than one to watch.

Salvor’s Ross Menuez prints were whimsical but the modal jersey wearable packable travelable collection breeds to his vision of “cross pollination of ideas and influences” in fashion.

Organic’s John Patric works in… obviously organic textiles and the collection heavy in brightly colored tweeds, chiffon layered tanks, mohair sweaters and organic cotton flannels had the audience smiling at the fact that “eco” no longer needs to be boring and neutral.
