New York Fashion Week Fall 2010: Showroom Antwerp

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Monday, February 15, 2010
In homage to the Antwerp six that came before them 8 young designer collections were revealed at the Flanders Fashion Institute presentation.  Diane Von Furstenberg came to show her support for not only her home town, but as CFDA President which is a known guide for new talent.

Anke Loh showed a knitwear collection where prints are worked into the yarn itself going way beyond surface treatment and giving each garment a 3 dimensional effect.

Anna Heylen showed a collection named for the women in her family, but that was purely menswear inspired.  Waistcoats blazers and masculine fabrics are turned into feminine garments with touches of flirty volume and sculptural elements.

Idriz Jossa showed a collection made from winter blankets.  Each piece was hand done incorporating knot techniques

Lenny Leleu showed architectural, provocative avant-guarde swimwear.  Paying attention to the architectural lines in a womans body, pieces double inforced the silhouette with layering techniques.  The white on white was both clean and sensual with the layers adding texture.

Marc-Phillipe Coudeyre, an award winning designer who has garnered both the Tommy Hilfiger prize as well as Lancome’s Modern Femininity award introduced a collection inspired by Avalon.  All the pieces were feminine and functional but had a mythical edge of the days of knights and armor at King Arthurs Castle.  Elements of chainmail and steel were prevalent in the way Coudeyre shaped the leather and draped the metallic jersey.  A true stand-out as this is how women want to dress now.  Not only in Antwerp but globally.

Peter Ceursters gave the viewers semi-couture scarves based on freedom, movement and sensitivity.  They have a protective fragile element to them as well as a soft comforting quality.

Stephan Schneider’s intention is to give strong wearable pieces with the consumer in mind.  Alread a popular brand in Belgium (produced and conceived there as well) pieces are cut by hand.  The menssweaters with fur lining were stand-outs as well as the ombre patterns throughout.

Flore Zoé was inspired by light to create the photographs that accompanied the fashion presentation.  All shot at the rooftop of the MIAT, Gent in Belgium over looking the city, the images have a mystical yet dark quality.
