New York Fashion Week Fall 2010: Irina Shabayeva

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Saturday, February 13, 2010
Winning Project Runway puts a lot of pressure on a designer.  Being known as the mean girl doesn’t help.  But Shabayeva’s career has taken flight (quite literally).  Standing with two of my most discerning friends (one swaddles herself in Dennis Basso and the other has Hollywood wrapped around her finger)  smiles and nods emerged as luxurious fur and humongeous cowlnecks and hoods echoed the sentiment of a Russian czarina.  Any pattern came from the fur itself and the winged print (which I am assuming was hand printed) onto leather pieces.  The finale unveiled 2 tea length party gowns two made of tiers of the wings abstractly and asymmetriacally and one literally constructed of pheasant feathers which was a little to McQueen-esque (which is impossible to surpace in terms of style) but aside from those three, the coats were divine. The leggings were rockstar (black on black with crustal winged details) and the hats gave a flirty element to a more diva status collection.  As soon as I get her number I am placing an order for the ombre fur chubby before next winter!
