Behind the Scenes: To Swag or Not to Swag... a Designer's Account

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Thursday, June 11, 2009

Edie Falso Tonys 2009Participating in the Tony Awards backstage Lipton Gift Lounge was to say the least a surreal experience.  For both myself and Passhal in general.  Seeing James Gandolfini walk in while I'm talking with Edie Falco about the light in our bag almost made me forget what I was talking about.
Before I could resume my composure there was Neil Patrick Harris interested in the Brief, really nice guy.
Talking with the legendary Liza Minnelli was great.  She was really interested in the recycling aspect of the bags. While I was talking with Ms. Minnelli I looked over at Jane Fonda standing by my partner tweeting about Passchal. How totally cool was that!
I told Chandra Wilson I was having issues with my heart, she pulled out her phone & said "I'll call 911, because if you are counting on me to help you, you're really going to be out of luck", really nice and funny lady.
The Brief was a big hit with Bret Michael and Kristin Chenoweth chose the red Square Clutch, which looked amazing with her gown. I have to admit, gowns are not something I pay much attention to, but hers was unforgettable.
We have been inspired to expand our men's line by the very positive response we received from actors too stage production crew members.
As an independent fashion designer the experience was amazing.  To have the opportunity to get our products into celebrity hands and get their reaction immediately was priceless. There are so many products of every kind hitting the market everyday and this for us has proven to be a great way to get our name out. When the VP of CBS says he's heard about us from his daughters, we know we must be doing something right.
In January, we participated in the Access Hollywood Gift Lounge in LA and were very fortunate to have Anna Lynn McCord photographed with our red Hobo, which then appeared in People.com because she wore it on the street. Having one of our designs used is the best we could ask for.  To swag? Totally worth it!
