Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Tuesday, June 16, 2009

CFDA Awards Entrance 2009On June 15th 2009, Tracy Ulman hosted the CFDA Fashion Awards for the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Womenswear Designer of the year nominees (Rodarte, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Narciso Rodriguez) had models stationed outside like little soldiers guarding the entrance to set the scene for what was yet to come.
The top prize ended up going to Kate & Laura Mulleavy of the Rodarte
A new category for the CFDA was the Popular Vote Award won by Ralph Lauren. Accessible fashion seems to be the new name of the game with all of the Fashion Blogs and Vlogs therefore WWD jumped on the bandwagon and allowed people to cast their votes via the WWD website.
Both Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders and Italo Zuccelli of Calvin Klein Collection tied for Menswear Designer of the Year.
Accessory Designer of the Year was presented to Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler
First Lady Michelle Obama was awarded the Board of Director’s Special Tribute for constant support and attention to America’s independent designers.
A large part of the evening was about growing and sponsoring the talent that makes emerging fashion important, therefore the Swarovski Awards where designers not only took home a statue but a check as well.  After an evening of beautiful short films where the designers and their muses frolicked in the nominated garments, The Swarovski Award for Menswear went to Tim Hamilton, the Swarovski Award for Womenswear went toAlexander Wang, the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design went to Justin Giunta of Subversive Jewelry.
Anna Sui took home the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton received the International Award.
Jim Moore, the Creative Director of GQ won the Eleanor Lambert Award.
Edward Nardoza of WWD took home the Eugenia Sheppard Award for outstanding work in journalism.
Rachel Brown won the CFDA/ Teen Vogue Scholarship
The room glittered with some of fashions most famous names from Diane von Furstenberg, Cynthia Rowley, Donna Karan, Elie Tahari, Erin Fetherston, Francisco Costa, Gilles Mendel, Kenneth Cole, Michael Kors, Peter Som, Phillip Lim, Ralph Lauren, Stan Herman, Thom Browne, Tory Burch, Tracy Reese, Vivienne Tam, Yeohlee Teng, Zac Posen, Ashley Olsen, Bruce Weber, Carmen Dell’Orefice, Claire Danes, Daphne Guinness, Heidi Klum to Kirsten Dunst, Molly Sims, Rachel Zoe, and Simon Doonan,
