Fall Couture 2009: Chanel

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Wednesday, July 08, 2009

Chanel Couture Fall 2009On July 7th, Chanel held their fall couture show in the Grand Palais in Paris.
The stage was set with larger than life Chanel N5 bottles surrounded by models on a pristine white platform.  What is usually about opulence was a bit less gluttonous this fall couture season unveiling, but it echoed to the iconic elements (boucle, perfume, and the Little Black Dress) that make Chanel one of the most famous fashion houses in the world. The models both stood inside and congregated around the N° 5 bottles.  The tone of the collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld was much less extravagant than previous seasons.  Rich burgundy, ivory, indigo and magenta tweed suiting separates may have been toned down but with anything Lagerfeld does the construction was still on point.  Luxurious black satin dresses spoke to the couture collection with their use of elongated trains. The pop of extravagance came with the use of beading, intricate embroidery and a rainbow of sequins situated on both the jackets and eveningwear. Jet black lace tights, gloves and veils added a sense of opulence and intrigue to the collection. Can anyone say Madonna circa 1980?  Overall the collection consisted of more classic pieces one can wear time and time again. Even if the recession has made its way into the House of Chanel, this is one area of the recession I will not mind being a part of.
