Williamsburg Indie Designer Soiree

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Sunday, July 19, 2009

Brooklyn RoyaltyOn Saturday, July 18th, the Williamsburg Indie Designer Soiree was held at the Arsenal in Brooklyn.  This event focused on independent fashion and accessories designers in the NYC area.
Bob Bland is the founder of The Arsenal, as well as the designer of the brand Brooklyn Royalty and Creative Director of the newly launched line, Duke Winston. I spoke with Bob about her spring collections for Brooklyn Royalty and Duke Winston, which were on display during the event.  Duke Winston is a Philadelphia based line of men’s street wear.  As Bob put it, “it is urban and straightforward, and all the designs are based off Winston Churchill and the English esthetic.”  Key pieces of the collection feature screen printed t-shirts honoring the Duke himself.  Brooklyn Royalty is a line of men’s and women’s wear consisting mainly of metallic coated denim and graphic tees. Which were just featured in the June issue of 303 Magazine. For the spring, there are pieces in distressed silk organza, color change jersey (that with the heat of your body will go from pink to blue) and graffiti spray painted tops.  I was in love with the brands buttery soft Italian leather jackets, most notably the one in bubble gum pink.  Adding any of these items into your wardrobe will give you some edge and possibly even some street credibility.
Other collections were on display by Tar & Feather, Fancy Sexy Me, ThrillsBK, Brookadelphis, Karen Keith Designs, Greenpoint Craftworks, Ruffeo Heart’s Lil’ Snotty, and Desira Pesta.
The hum of the fans could not drown out the buzz and excitement of all who attended as shoppers pawned through the beautiful collections just waiting to be snapped up.
