Fall Couture 2009: Christian LaCroix

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Wednesday, July 08, 2009

Christian LaCroix Couture Fall 2009Christian Lacroix held what could possibly be his last show at Les Arts Decoratifs Museum on July 7th for his Fall 2009 couture collection.
The mood was that of a funeral procession as hugs were dealt and tears were shed. The show must go on… even in a recession so models worked for only 50 Euros, while everyone else worked for free.  Even the shoes the models wore were donated.  Melancholy aside, the collection was showed to accolades to the adoring fashion crowd. The collection was extremely wearable (if by wearing we mean the polished socialites that LaCroix has in his rolodex) in both shape and cut and concentrated on the colors of black and various shades of navy blue.  Choosing a lot of wool and silk, it was the intricate detailing that only LaCroix can do, that brought luxury to the practical pieces.  Velvet with silk draping bows, satin cowboy inspired and circular wool hats gave the somber for Lacroix collection a touch of playfulness. One of the main players of haute couture, I hope that an investor(s) are able to lift Lacroix from the ruins and place him back on his pedestal where he belongs.  As spoken with passion and love for his namesake collection, "I can't think this is the end," Lacroix told Associated Press Television News in a backstage interview. "It's the beginning of something, I hope."
