Fourteen Finalists from all over the British school system were selected from over 100 entries to present two pieces each in a collection entitled “Traces.” Asked to design one look inspired by a personal memory and one of a collective sociological memory sketchbooks narrowed down the finalists.
Winner Rasa Abramavicciute, Middlesex University conjured up one equisitely quilted piece made of leather pieces that brought her back to her Lithuanian roots while the second piece made up of tiled bits of carpeting related back to a political demonstration in her country where people linked hands. Both the creation and the idea behind it wooed the judges including Sonnet Stanfill, Curator of 20th Century Fashion V&A, David Koma, previous FAD Finalist, Elizabeth Mcluskie, Fashion Buyer from Harrods and creators of Vauxhall Fashion Scout themselves. Abramavicciute won 2,000 pounds and a work study program with Vivienne Westwood.
First runner up: Alice Jane Hutton, DeMontfort University.
Runner up Rebecca Solity, DeMontfort University Vera Thordardottir, Istituto Marangoni received Honorable mention.
