With a motto of “You know,..Class wars are abound in the way people approach fashion of the masses. We want fashion truth.” Riot Report is conquering cyberspace one article at a time.
Started by Vanessa Vazart and Suzy Lequeux just a short week ago, www.riotreport.com houses fashion’s hottest articles and blogs, up-to-the minute all under one site. The interesting angle is that it is selected by humans, with an inherent sense of style and not the computers that seem to run so many fashion conglomerates. Lynn Furge spoke to the two partners about how their vision came to life.
Lynn Furge: With the world today turning to on-line sources for fashion news and advice, how does Riot Report give them what they want?
Vanessa Vazart & Suzy Lequex: We believe in technology, but we believe in a human-touch more. The solution is two-fold: while technology can bear the brunt of mass distribution, our focus is customer service. We’ve built a site that doesn’t just handle news distribution, it’s a technological service backed by human consciousness.
Many sites are capable of giving customers what they want.. we have made it our mission to give them more of what they want, and in less time...but the real engine behind the charm of our site is that its human run.
While we know that technology is important, harnessing it properly using the human spirit is going to be most important for the future. After all, the inspiration for this site came out of a dilemma...how to deal with the exponential growth of quality fashion reporting...many have provided
LF: How did you choose your “favorites” with so many Blogs out there (I feel like a fashion blog pops up once every two seconds)?
VV& SL: We realized that even the best bloggers will find that maybe only 1 out of every 5 posts is amazing.. so we wanted to sift for them.. provide a human editorial service.
We look for inspiration, newsworthiness and wow factor... usually it comes from stunning pictures and well thought-out commentary. We're saving people that roam these blogs time by just bringing them the best of the best...you don’t have to look for it because we are. Fortunately, because we link, we have the luxury of linking to posts rather then vouching for the entirety of the site.
LF: Why is getting up to the minute fashion advice/news important for today’s consumer that might not have as much money to spend?
VV & SL: The sense that we're a report, in our minds, gears us towards industry watchers. We conceived of the site for people that NEED to stay on top of this type of information, but we include information that would make it interesting for anyone with an interest in fashion.
One of our early conceptions of our product was that :
”If you want to get into fashion, we are a resource, and if you’re already into fashion, then we are a resource.” We are more about personal style...the idea that if you rock it and own it, then you owned it and rocked it…. and this effervescent thing called taste...well its completely subjective and often ruled by the ego."
