Nolcha Fashion Week Trend Recap

Posted by fashionentrepreneurreport On Friday, October 09, 2009

Forty-five designers unveiled their collections, both in fashion showcases and on the runway.  Stand-out stars burst onto the scene as the new ones to watch in the fashion community ticking the boxes of both innovation and current trend.

Ruffles and Romance
Seen throughout the runways at Marc JacobsFendiValentinoLuisa BeccariaGiambatista Valli and Givenchy just to name a few.  They were shaped from flouncy flowing tiers, sculpted into lettuce shapes and grouped into millions of rows.  Nolcha Fashion Week designers echoed the sentiment turning out beautiful textures in innovative romantic looks.

Dora Abodi with her Meringue Dress produced rows and rows of ruffles with an unfinished edge to add a modern twist to a classic look.  Minna K concentrated on tiers and details toward the neck evoking Elizabethian romance. Elda De La Rosa produced sculpted ruffled details with a Spanish flair.
Rustic Chic
Rustic Chic, with muted colors, bell skirts, lace and eyelet was a new development at Chanel for Spring 2010.

Anaessia Sydney gave the audience a palette of peach, ivory and dusty rose.  Beautifully executed in each and every piece,   Designer Sue Vanikiotis’ love of the theatre and fashion from the 20’s and 30’s inspired the collection.
With a modern take on quilting Dora Abodi’s mini dress set a new standard in Rustic Chic.  Little metallic patches, and cross hatched pieces flattered the female silhouette and added to the bandage references Abodi was promoting for spring.
Nadia Nour’s eco/sustainable line with dyed organic silks and cottons and a country chic black and white print was a crowd and retailer favourite.
S.C.U.B.A.
A trend seen during Resort 2010, the S.C.U.B.A. inspired body-conscious dress was seen everywhere from Jill Stuart to Elise Øverland.

rockhard.jpgsoka.jpgshernicia1.jpgshernicia2.jpg
Rock Hard Atelier unveiled dresses in nude, black and grey with removable pieces to allow the wearer to go from day-to-night with a couple of snaps.  Soka produced a beautiful strapless number that had lattice details to add texture to the trend. Shernicia’s one piece short to dress convertible combo was a perfect saleable version of the current trend.
Metallic Futuristic Glamazons
A popular topic on designers minds from Richard Nicoll and Frank Tell to Peter Pilotto and many more, the Metallic Futuristic Glamazons hit the runway to conquer Spring 2010 globally.

Quiet Riot showed an entire collection of vibrant metallic foil accented pieces with exaggerated shoulders, short hemlines and some Xanadu-esque fringe. Šárka Šiškováturned out silver asymmetrical tunics in a more sculptural sophisticated ready-to-wear display.  Again Dora Abodi hit a high point with her metallic silver bondage pant that rivaled those seen at Gaultier and Burberry.
Tribal Print
Diane Von Furstenberg
Louis Vuitton and the expected Dries Van Noten all displayed beautiful colorful tribal prints worthy of the globe trotter.

kimmistic1.jpgkimmistic2.jpgkimmistic3.jpg

Designer Kimon Baptiste of Kimmistic.clo produced beautiful tribal florals with citrus accents (another big trend in color seen this season).
The Trench Coat
The Trench coat re-emerged as the overcoat of choice.  This season, sleeveless versions and exaggerated collars created a twist on the classic at
SportmaxRick Owens,Burberry and many others.
christinacrawford1.jpgchristinacrawford2.jpg
Christina Crawford taking inspiration from Marilyn Monroe turned out romantic versions of the current trend.
The Athlete
Classic athletic sportswear, with even a bit of a “racquet” edge hit the runway at Hermes and Alexander Wang.
emeshadress.jpgemeshajacket.jpgemeshatennis.jpg
Sustainable designer Emesha echoed the sentiment with short easy dresses in tones of white, grey, khaki, rust and navy.
The Forties Screen Siren
From flowing gowns at Galliano to peek-a-boo knitwear at Dolce and Gabbana the idea of that 40’s icon is back.
siskovadress.jpgsodalisciousdress.jpgafanador.jpg
Šišková unveiled a dress so beautiful that it practically walked itself down the runway.  Cindy Renée Mathieu of Sodaliscious gave us frothy concoctions with tiers of lace and exquisite beading.  Afanador, whose collection was varied from multi textured cocktail pieces to post-card painted sheaths, hit it out of the park with a laser cut black piece that if worn with the short briefs that commanded the runway from Milan to Paris, will be a fashionistas favorite come spring.
Jewelry
Rocks are big, and if they cannot be big they are stacked.
maleku1.jpgmaleku2.jpgshamilla2.jpgshamilla.jpg
Maleku Jewelry’s designer Ileana Rojas-Bennett took notice of her roots in Costa Rica and sculpted maxi bracelets, Titanic worthy pendants and finger consuming rings. Shamila’s collection of Lokum Lale rings in micro-chisled floral patterns done in everything from citrine to blue topaz will pair beautifully with the romantic trends seen on the runway.
Handbags
Lots of texture (think exotic skin, fringe and pops of color) were seen at Versace and Fendi
eenamaria.jpgschander.jpg
Eenamaria followed suit with cool day bags in faux snakeskin, herringbone and even some sporty racing stripes.  Schander went for more of the contemporary minimalistic approach with buttery soft super luxurious bags in classic black, ivory and red.
